If you've recently bought an electric vehicle — or you're planning to — installing a dedicated home charger is one of the best decisions you can make. But prices vary significantly between installers, and it's not always clear what's included. Here's a straightforward breakdown of what EV charger installation costs in 2026 and what affects the price.

What Does an EV Charger Installation Cost?

At Hinton Electrics, all-in prices for a standard home EV charger installation start from £999. That covers the charger unit itself (MyEnergi Zappi), all cabling and materials, the installation, and full NAPIT certification.

Use the interactive calculator on the pricing page for a more precise figure based on your specific setup — cable run length, consumer unit type, and parking location all affect the final price.

What Affects the Price?

Cable run length is the biggest variable. A short run from a consumer unit to a garage or driveway close to the house is straightforward. A long run — across a garden, under a path, or up multiple floors in a flat — requires more cable, more time, and sometimes groundworks.

Consumer unit condition matters too. Older fuse boards may need upgrading before an EV charger can be safely installed — this adds cost but is an important safety upgrade. I'll always tell you upfront if this is needed, not on the day of installation.

Some installations also require a separate EV distribution board or a timed relay for off-peak charging — these add a modest amount to the price but are worth it for long-term savings on your electricity bill.

Which Charger Should I Choose?

I install and recommend the MyEnergi Zappi. It's one of the most capable home chargers available — solar-compatible (so it can use surplus energy from panels to charge your car), smart enough to charge only when grid electricity is cheapest, and well-supported with a good app. It charges at up to 7.4kW, which means a typical EV goes from near-empty to full overnight.

Other brands like Ohme, Hypervolt and Easee are also available if you have a preference. All come with a manufacturer warranty and are fully certified as part of the installation.

How Long Does Installation Take?

A standard home installation takes around half a day — usually 3–5 hours depending on the cable run. I'll be tidy throughout and leave the installation looking clean and professional. All certification is issued on completion.

I install EV chargers throughout Pinner, Hemel Hempstead, Harrow, Ruislip, Northwood, Watford, Uxbridge, Ealing and all surrounding areas. Use the pricing calculator for an instant quote.
